I have been experiencing this problem and have found a solution that helped me. So here is the solution to that problem:

1. In your Chrome browser navigate to Chrome://plugins.
2. Click the plus sign next to Details on the top right of the window to display more information.
3. If you see two versions of Flash, look at the path to the program.
4. Click the Disable link next to the version that starts with C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\.
4. Leave the version enabled that starts with C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\ (or similar path that applies to your operating system).
5. Open a new Chrome window.
6. Navigate to a website (such as YouTube) with Flash content to test.

Creativity - the forbided idea

I feel creativity is not just about creating things or ideas or solutions, its more than that; these are mere manifestations of one's creativity.

Creativity is a small word of this big liberating philosophy on living life. It cultivates one's ability to swim when given a pool, fly when given the skies, climb when given a tree, in short creativity is the art of developing one's evolving 'gene'. The gene that will transform, and create new things and live a life richer in perspective.

Sadly, we urban dwellers have gone through a homogenising education system that has developed the inertia to change in us. This risk-adverse attitude to life or anything new, acts like a barrier between us and the infinite horizon.

Furthermore, our society has labeled creativity as something reserved solely for those with time to spare and have developed a narrow perspective of life, measured only by money. Thus ranking creativity as low as the standards allow.

However humanity still has a chance of not turning into an army of unthinking learners. The tides are changing as more and more people are now acknowledging the importance of creativity. Let's hope this that change of tide will bring about a tsunami that will engulf humanity with a surge of creativity.

Finding my voice

'Finding my voice' is my journey inwards, a deep soul searching journey towards the core of my being.

What makes me happy? What am I good at? Who am I going to be? These are the questions worth answering.

Money will only make one happy till he realizes that he has sold his voice to satisfy his greed, unless if it was his voice that brought him that wealth.

I am now a little confused. I know I don't want a life that is measured solely on how much I earn and where I work. I know I want to run something on my own. However, I've yet to discover what I will run. I know that I will have to allow myself to be at places and do a variety of things that my heart desires.

The clearer the vision, the lesser the options, easier the decision. A phrase that upon hearing, resonated with me. I am not only confused on the careers I should take but also on the majors I should declare. I felt that I was not on par with my peers who have had figured that they want to be investment bankers and so on. But, I now realise that, I was at least honest with myself unlike many who have just named a lucrative career path based on what they have seen or heard or simply followed the herd.

However, now I need to clear my vision and that will makes things easier. This is one thing I shall work on as I pursue more activities in hope that I will groom myself holistically and eventually find my voice.

Amazon Dream Catcher

My noisy Red fronted Amazon, not only speaks, he sheds his feathers too.

Overtime, I've collected a handful of these beautiful feathers without knowing what I can do with them.

However, I managed to somehow come out with it after sleeping over it.

1. Washed the feathers with diluted shampoo. (Don't want to wash the oil completely from the feathers, for shinny look)

2. Blew dry them and stored them in a clean place.

3. Get rings to form the structure(s) of the dream catcher. (Important to keep an open mind, I was totally lost on what material to use till I let my discrimination go)
- Smallest ring - part of an old parrot toy.
- Plain red bangle &
Red + gold bangle = Mum's old plastic bangles

4. Tube cloth
- Initially I wanted to use a old shoelace but I spotted this old paper bag and decided to use its cloths "shoe-string" type handles instead.

5. Warp the tube through the bangle.

This be the exterior ring (largest).

6. Place the smaller ring in the position you want.

7. Sew the ring in the position indicated on the left (steps 1 - 15, were the steps I took in stringing my dream catcher).

- I chose not to follow the traditional Native American pattern.

Reflections:
- Everyday objects can come together to form new and fun things.
- I was so consumed by this project that I forgot to take pictures to document the full steps. I guess, I enjoyed myself and forgot this was for school.
- I think I should develop my sewing skills as I think my dream catcher would have looked nicer if I had better sewing skills (though my younger brother thought it was something I bought as he thought the quality is good).

- I've also come to realize that I take pleasure in giving old items a new lease of life by recycling them into new, innovative products.

Moss Graffiti Epic Failure?

I wanted this to be one of my showcase but the planned idea did not take the shape I envisioned.

Moss graffiti, is painting using moss.
It adds life (literally) to one's creation, brings nature into the indoors and allows you to paint anything you like. I love the fact, that it grows.

Unfortunately, attempts did not yield much success.

Red-bull waves back ★Showcase★

This recycled-materials made garden windmill not only adds some dimension to my otherwise boring balcony garden.
It also serves as a scare-"sparrow" protecting my Aloevera and ladyfinger plants.

Redbull cans, saved from being thrown.
1. Use a knife to puncture a hole and next cut the sheet with a sharp scissors.

Finally some use for my dictionary (last time I opened it was during my secondary school days)

2. Placed the cut sheets in the pages of the dictionary (any thick book for that matter) and place additional weights to speed the process of flattening.

3. Make a template of the blades.
(I did not wait long enough for the sheets to flatten completely, but it was not curling back excessively)

4. Trace the blade pattern on the flatten sheet.

5. Cut out the blades (and if your blades have sharp edges fold them to make a blunt edge) Thankfully, these blades are blunt.

6. Cut a rectangular piece. (longer that the middle width of all the blades combined and give some allowance between the blades)
7. Make a slit to allow the blades to slide in.
8. Fold the rectangle piece and tape any loose parts
9. Bend the rectangle piece into a circle loop.

10. Tape the front and back of the center joint (axle).
11. Puncture a 2cm-3cm long strong into the taped joint.

12. Take a curved straw and "string" it through.

13. Place small sticks (plant branches) at the front and back of the axle.

Errors:

The making of the axle without any planning proved to be dangerous.

Trial and error is not the most effective method.

My Aloevera plant is now safe from the pesky sparrows. Its just nice to see the windmill spin and the shinny (non-sharp) blades reflect light around the balcony. The display of running reflected light is a unexpected fridge benefit.

Reflections:

More research on the net could have helped.
I relied on my observations on a garden windmill I saw long ago.
Solely relying on memory to build something may not be the best way to go, but it certainly pushes your mental ability.

I felt that I applied SCAMPER unconsciously when I put the red bull can, straws, and even plant branches to other use. This proves that SCAMPER can become part of one's flow of creativity after some practice.

I am also surprised that I could build something like this without drawing plans or looking online for a step by step guide. I've learnt that, creativity forces one to "deviate" from one's comfort zone and in doing so, one expands his ability. It also provided me with a lot of joy in seeing a fully functional garden windmill.

Drunken shrimps ★Showcase★

My drunken shrimps provides me with the much needed company on my lonely white study desk. Besides being mostly made of recycled materials, this eco-bottle-system, is relatively maintenance free. The algae just needs some light and it will keep the system going.

The fantastic algae, the moss ball.

This primitive plant will not only provide my shrimps with the algae food they need but also provide them with the much needed oxygen.

Thai red shrimps, my new pets.
They will eat the moss and provide the moss with the carbon dioxide the moss need. Their waste will provide food for the bacteria and the bacteria will break down the waste into nutrients for the moss.

But I will need some chemical to treat the chlorinated tap water first.

The clear Absolut bottle is most perfect to house this bio-bottle system.

I have many magnets on my fridge.
I simply removed 2 pieces of magnet from 2 old magnet souvenirs.

The magnet will help me clean any unwanted algae growth on the glass surface. Hence, ensuring me a perfect peek into my shrimp world.

Almost everything is blended

I was wearing this shirt for CT when blending was introduced.

I did not take notice/ignorant of the creative aspect, until I return home and realise that the buttons are a blend of the slip button and the snap button.

The Tamagotchi was my primary school gadget. It is also a blended creation.

I heard that the creator noticed that his fellow Japanese were crazy over technology and pet, and simply put the two together to form the Tamagotchi.

Again, its another blended space.

Blended spaces exist everywhere around us. Its kinda hard to find something that is not a blended space.

Even the white board is a blended space (black board + white paper flip-chart), our Singapore flag (Islamic influences + Chinese influences), smartphones (cell phone + pda + radio + laptop), the list can go on.

However, it is not certain if the innovators of these innovation applied blending to create their creations. That said, it is very mush evident that there's some degree of blending in all of the above stated examples and in almost everything around us.

YRCAE and MORE @ SAM

Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern. - Alfred North Whitehead (1861 - 1947) [English mathematician turned philosopher]

This is the quote that my secondary school art teacher Madam Sri shared with my class, and it resonated with me today.

Like what the quote suggests, I feel that our ability to appreciate and enjoy the art done by anyone for this matter, reflects our ability to recognize pattern imposed from human experiences. This reflects our shared human ability to empathise. Hence, an art gallery like YRCAE will presents society at large, an opportunity view the world from these ex-offenders' glasses, and empathise their plague.

I was touched and amazed by many art pieces showcased today. And as such, I've chosen one art-piece for each specific question, so that I could at least talk about more of these art pieces.

It’s really difficult to rank them based on a scale of meaningfulness – and creativity.
But one art piece that took me by surprise and made the “wow” impact was the acrylic on canvas piece titled Transmogrity.

I could not help not to interpret the meaning of the strokes and colours on the canvas. My head was bursting with “stories” as my jaw drop in awe.

This is my interpretation:

The mere dust on the bottom right is morphing into a phoenix, and it is reaching to the sun.
The dust symbolises the old life of the X-offender, and the phoenix represents the current phase of his life, as he morphs into a new person and reaches above to the divine.

This was the written explanation [RIGHT]: (It varies a little from mine though)

My Superhero, is a piece dedicated to the X-offender’s mother. The art piece is very direct with its meaning. The mother is seen equivalent to a marvel-Hero. It shows, that the artist feels that the mother’s unconditional love, is sometime beyond human, something of a hero.

The Way I see It.

Is a piece that obey no “gravity” it has scenes from the artist’s past everywhere. It is mostly pop-culture inspired and it shows that we human beings are byproducts of both nature and nurture.

In that sense, we owe our very own mental make-up to what nature and situations have provided for us. Those who are fortunate enough to be born in a family that has the affluence and ability to provide one with a proper education path and shelter, should acknowledge the unearned privileges that one has received and be humbled that one is lucky.

Life by the river

Body gestures speaks what the facial expressions can’t is what I learnt from this piece.

As an O’level art student (I did silk painting for my GCE ART), I had the opinion that facial expressions are the key to illustrating one’s emotions and feelings. I am so wrong! Body gestures speak volumes more, and the empty faces allow us the audiences to imagine suitable facial expressions. AMAZING!

If I were to paint again, I will definitely go "faceless"

Siesta VS Siesta In Bali

2 pieces, one done in 1952 and the other in 1957, shows the same model but in very different setting.

I wonder why the artist had decided to re-work on a piece he had done before and why did he make it sensual.

The explanation provided by SAM, only focused on the changes made to the chair and how it has allowed the viewer a full view of the model’s body. But, not on the factors that has inspired Liu to go bold on the second try. Its a mystery!

The Reactive wall proves that art is limitless in terms of medium and ideas.

A projection of icons and characters fills the wall. The more noise one makes, the more art the wall gets filled with.

The visit to SAM, has revived my passion for the visual arts, and I looking forward to the "winter" vacations for some silk-painting freedom! (or maybe this time I may try mix medium) :)

Scamer, Picture Chain = anti- stroop effect?

Stroop effect is the inability to tell the colour of a coloured word within normal reaction time.
For example, the time taken to read the colour of the following wording
RED PURPLE YELLOW < RED KITE BLUE

This happens when the information is in conflict. For example, the brain process two different meaning and it cannot be placed together.

However, one can train one's brain to handle such conflicts by putting oneself through brain games.

I think there's a co-relation between stroop effect and one's speed in completing the picture chain that we tried in CT class. And in my view, scamer is like a tool to overcome the inertia, or even a "short-cut" if I may.

So what is the co-relation between the stroop effect and one's timing in completing the picture chain?

I think the rigidity or inability to come up with a picture chain that deviates from the conditioned norms, is similar to one inablity to overcome the stroop effect.

However, scamer acts like a tool. Scamer provides with a method to overcome the conditioned rigidity to produce creative "mis-nomers".

These are my theories though hahaha....no research done to back my random musings. :)

SCAMPER - My cheatcode to creativity

Within SCAMPER itself, some tools are easier to execute as compared to others. From my SCAMPER experience, I feel that combine is easier as compared to Substitute.

SCAMPER in my view is a cheat code to create creative outputs. It some sense it is a beginners' guide to creativity.

However, I feel that SCAMPER has it's limitations as well. It might result to "wild" hybrids, unfeasible concepts and ideas that are too futuristic that current technology cannot support.

Abe Lincoln Chopping Wood
It was amazing how some people could see the hidden object while others could not.
Most of us "cheated" by doing it together and we managed to find almost all the items listed.
My group consisted of Ram and Muar, and we found everything except the axe and fork. Not bad for a first time!

Picture Chain
Our team of 6 finished 3rd!! We did it quickly by adding adjectives to the item in the picture or by calling it by differently. However, we were rather rigid in our definition of a chain and hence we only made one that is laterally connected.

So what lessons can I take back from these activities?
A creative person
1. has the ability to view different perspectives
2. is able to convince people to follow him
3. has no issues with asking for help
4. has a rough idea of what they want and yet still fluid in their approach and open to adapting
5. is rather comfortable with contradictions

Self-Awareness, Creativity and Me

I used to be creative, and it was a long time ago; when I was young and not-risk adverse.

However, after so many years of education, I've grown to follow the 'to-do list' and hence have neglected my creative side. My creative gene have been neglected to the extend that now, I need a 'to-do list' even to function per normal. I am afraid to follow my intuition and rely on advices based on someones' past experiences.

But I am not alone.

I guess, we Singaporeans are simply too afraid to lose and have grown to become a nation full of Kiasus. It could be because we as a society have advanced too fast and we still carry with us our 3rd world mentality of risk; making us a 1st world nation with a 3rd world mindset.

Our parents made us practice past year papers and answer the questions as close as to the sample answer. Our teachers in school, taught us specific methods in solving mathematical questions (eg. model drawing for ratio and fraction) and would reprimand us if we deviate from the proposed standard of answering. And even at university level, we are told how to dress, walk, talk, for the corporate world (Finishing Touch-module), hence restricting creativity.

We pursue the course that we think will be economically viable and by doing so, we have set aside the human need for creativity; embracing the homogeneous factory-sation of ourselves.

I view creativity as something that only those with the time and money can indulge in. I cannot afford to paint a painting (even though I would like to do so), the time could be spent on studying for a module, or giving tuition to earn some extra cash.

I would love to draw and paint but I am just afraid that in doing so, I might slow down and be overtaken by the masses.

However, I also do acknowledge that deep down inside me, there lingers a monster that craves to savour and produce creative peieces, be it painting, photography, webdesigning, recording of embient noise, recording/producing a documentary say on the stray cats of Tampines. But, I may end up fighting this monster for the rest of my alive, afraid that the monster might eat me alive.

Tipping point & The difficult red block

Tipping point

I am really fascinated by the unveiling of the term "Tipping point".
I think my tipping point came when I was on my death bed after being diagnosed with Chronic Myloid Leukaemia. It was a time when my body was failing but my mind grew stronger. But my "strength" only came about when I decided to reflect on my life and what I have done right and wrong. I told myself that, the pain is inevitable so I got to stop feeling scared as its not going to help me in anyway and that worked! I was able to withstand the mental trauma of being wheeled into the surgery room for my bone marrow aspiration and I could hold myself together through for the painful chemotherapy sessions.

So, now I know the proper noun for that life changing moment, its perfectly coined as 'Tipping Point'. And also realise how important is it to be self-aware, or in CT terms, to have high intra-personal intelligence.

Difficult Block

I have never 'played' with a block puzzle before and today's encounter with it has made me hungry for more of such puzzles. It was not only a fun experience but an enriching one as well.
I discovered that, to solve a complex problem, its easier to first figure where the Difficult Block fits in your desired picture and work from there. It easy when you follow this method.

Vegetarian tomato mushroom pasta and chips

Vegetarian tomato mushroom pasta/macaroni and chips

I did not want to let my wisdom-tooth ache ruin my day, and hence I decided to cook myself a vegetarian treat. A simple to prepare yet yummy tomato mushroom pasta/macaroni with chips.

I did one with pasta for lunch and macaroni for dinner.

The tomato and mushroom pasta sauce

The chrispy chips

Step 1: Prepare necessary ingredients
-slice onions and mushrooms, extra-thinly sliced potatos, stone pound some garlic cloves

Step 2: Pour tomatoe puree into a pan with a little olive oil.

Step 3: Throw in a pounded garlic clove and sliced onions and mushrooms. Allow it to cook for 30mins on low heat.

Step 4: For the pasta. Pour water into a bowl and add 2 table spoon of salt. Wait for the water to boil and make sure it remains "boiling" even when u stir. (Don't add oil for pasta)

Step 5: Throw in the pasta and allow it 8-10mins to cook. Stir to avoid getting clums of pasta. For Macaroni, boil for 20mins and add 2 tea-spoon of oil.

Step 6: For the chips. Make sure that the pan of oil is hot. Carefully "release" sliced patato into the hot oil individually and remove within 2mins, or when the chip looks cooked (which ever that comes first). And sprinkle some salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 7: Serve pasta on a plate, pour the sauce over pasta and dress it with chrispy chips!

Unfair arrest?

Youths were arrested and were only allowed to go home after a $2000 bail. All because they were giving out flyers for an unregistered company, a loan shark syndicate. These youths were not aware that the company they were working for was infact a loan shark. Unfortuantely, ignorance does not let you off the hook. These gullible youths were arrested and were only allowed to go home after their parents paid a hefty $2,000 bail. Is it "unfair" to arrest these youths? - I wonder. Anyways, its our national duty to educate our youths. A simple search on ACRA bizfile will lift the veil and reveal the company's integrity.

Are we truly who we think we are? Does our heritage, culture, "race", ethnicity, religious faith, political views, language, gender, sexual orientation, artistic sense, qualifications, fittness, size, fashion sense, diet, and family status make us into the person we think we are?

Does above stated factors empower us, or does it cage us and restrict us in your comfort zones?

Does being leukaemic, tamil, hindu-buddist-neo-saivite, singaporean, world-citizen, leftist-socialist, vegetarian, male, indian, chetti-malaka + thevar (indian clan), SMU student, scholar, TP valedictorian, a son, a brother, a friend, and a citizen of this planet we call home, make me ME?

Is identity, a psedo reality, a mirage of the truth or the reflection of the real?

A wise master, Jaggi, has said that, identities are limitations. When one has identified his name as him and instead of seeing the reality that his name is not him but merely a noun that belongs to him. Jaggi went on with his philosophy, but that will just bore you. So let me end my post here!

I am feeling intoxicated, not by alcohol but by bliss of being in existence. I want to make my body, a perfect human perfection of strength and agility, my mind, as calm as space, and my soul as pure as shiva.

Shiva, some call him god, but in yogic tradition, he is Athiyogi. The first yogi, who created Yoga, a system of science, and gave humanity the key to greatness beyond the kingdom of flesh.

Hinduism is not a religion of many gods. There is not 3 million gods nor is there only 1 god. In hinduism, nothing but only God exists. (Evertything that exist is God)

There is a teaching in the Rig Veda that to create something, one must have the material(s) needed and posses the knowledge of creating that thing. To make a clay pot, one must have clay and posses the knowledge of molding a clay pot. Likewise, a spider webs its web using its saliva and with the knowledge of webbing a web. The same, "God" made the entire existence with God as material and with the knowledge from God again. Hence, everything in existence posses the material "God" and that is how everything is God.

The world is not an easy dichotomy of good and evil. Perceptions are blind glasses that serves one the view of good and evil.

Damn! It was a gooooooddd....Saturday! Caught Kong Fu Panda 2 with Ibra and Kamini, chatted and later met the TSO's from TP for a King's feast at Carousel @ Royal Plaza hotel! :P

Ate a table full of food and had a lot of fun catching with friends!
And, I ate crab meat by accident. Fortunately, there weren't any allergic outbreak which could have ruin my weekends.

Life, is what we make of it. We develop friendships, fall in love, build cities and lastly leave our worldly world behind when we shed our frail human body.

Today or rather yesterday (since it has passed 12), was a day of history. We had our first un-official Tamizha meeting and we bounced great ideas off each other. I am very excited to see the club take form. Most importantly, I am doing it with friends! People, whom I could trust and be opened to.

I've always felt out of place for being my age, but my friends have made me feel so loved that I don't feel any different from them. I am truly grateful to the universe for this moment of joy.

God, universe, brahma...thank you!

I am truly grateful for the inter-connectedness that we enjoy today. Shan has left for Darmstadt and yet I am still able to stay connected with her via WhatsApp, Skype and MSN! Long gone are the days when we could only email, and before that, letters!!!

Today we have the technology to bring our voices and images over such long distances in real time; imagine what we will have in the future!

I am looking forward to the future where we will be able to teleport to Old Trafford to catch a Manchester United match live and teleport back home to the mountain tops in Nepal with egg prata bought from Tampines st 45.

A future where clothes not only protect us from shame but also does not need any washing and is able to change its design, hence eliminating the need to shop for new ones. A future where, injured limbs and cancers will just need a nano-second surgery or replacement. Wow...the future will be an awesome place to be at, if we are able to overcome and solve today's problems.

Why do we blog?

This is a question that I've been asked before, and there is no one answer to it. Personally, I blog for the love of writing, sharing my experience, to voice my opinions, to archive the evolution of my thoughts/ideas/opinions, and also to give my creativity a space to experiment and flourish.

However, I have sometimes rant on my blog and it is something I am not proud of. I dislike ranting in public and my blog is in the public domain.

I am looking forward to my Golf-sessions, to the starting of Tamizra தமிழா (SMU's Tamil Language & Cultural Society), to SCD-FTB goodies, SCD-GSR cleanliness campaign, and of cause to the start of YEAR 2!!!!

I shall better manage my time between my commitments to SCD, Tamizra and to SINDA, without compromising on my Year 2 MODS!!
